Well starting 1/1/12 my health ins. has changed. I now have $1000.00 in my insurance "bank" for both my husband and I and pay no co-pay until the $1000.00 are used up, between the two of us.
After the $1000.00 are used up, I have to pay the next $1000.00 myself, after that the ins. will pay %70/30.
I am pretty worried, because going to a specialist always cost about $280.00 and if I have to have an x-ray, well it sucks. I know that we have people that are much worse off, but I don't know how I can afford that. I am affraid that I will choose not to go to the doctor when I should, but wait until I HAVE to go.
It is so good for Lupies to get something new to worry about.
The funny thing is, our district manager said, that this is better than before, because how many times does one go to the doctor anyway, about 2-3 times a year?
Well maybe he does, because he is 26 and healthy. I sometimes go three times a month or more.

Dealing with insurance is the pits!
We had an HMO in Texas. I sometimes had to beg and plead to get them to approve something like an MRI, but at least they paid 100% once it was approved.
Here in CA, we have a PPO (no HMOs allowed in this state). We have to pay a deductible every year ($300 for each of us), and we have to pay a percentage of things like MRIs or surgeries. We were hit hard when we suddenly got a $689 bill for our part of Jeff's surgery last year.
I'm glad for what we have, but I really wish that this country could have universal health care for all. It would certainly make for a healthier, happier population!
Good luck with the new system. Perhaps if enough employees complain to the DM over the course of the year, the company will try a different insurance next year?
It might be worth a try.

Hi Marla,

I know, I should be glad with what I have, because so many people don't have any insurance.
But this can get very expensive, just think how much certain prozedures are. Oh well I guess I have to live with it and be smart about, how I am going to use this new ins.
BTW, complaining won't make a difference, it is a very big company, with stores all over Europe and about 1000 stores here in the US, in 6 states. They will do it their way, no matter what.
