Ok. Yesterday, my opthamologist told me that the bubble growing on my bottom right eye lid is cancer.
Ok. I cried so much today, I can't cry any more. Has anybody heard of that? Is this common with Lupus. My entire right eye is messed up. The doctor even said that my eye alignment is off track. I have trouble sleeping at night because my eye does it's own thing. Like right now, it's almost completely fogged over, it feels like a piece of stick in the back of the eyeball and the eye is completely dry. It is painful. I also have problems looking at fluorescent lights. It's almost like looking at the sun - directly. The pain is only in the right eye (thank GOD).

Has anybody ever experienced this or know someone who has, or ever heard of it? I am completely scared.

Didn't he/she say more such as prognosis or treatment options? Try not to Google too much. Get more info from your ophthamologist. Hang in there!

Hi Manderson. I went to urgent care and because I was seen so late, I was told to call the office today and schedule an appt to "fix" the eye. The person who schedules the appts was not there so I have to call back on Monday. They spoke in doctor terms so I didn't understand a lot of what they said, but they will be doing some type of surgery. Unfortunately, I did google and saw an eye that looked exactly like mine. I wish I had not looked, though because the info was very disturbing. Thank you for your reply.

So very sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I haven't ever heard of eye cancer relative to SLE, but I'm no SLE guru either.

I hope there are treatment options that preserve the vision in the eye. Please share whatever information you garner so we all learn more about eye cancer and if it's related to SLE.

Take care.

Hi Theresa,

I'm sorry to hear about this diagnosis.

Steve is right, modern medicine is a great thing.

I've had to learn as much as I can about cancer as of late, and one thing I've learned is just how far the various treatments for cancer have come in the last 10-15 years. There are many new treatments that are less invasive and target only the specific area where a tumor is, it's amazing stuff. There are many treatment options, and many reasons to have hope.

Please, when you can, let us know how you are doing.

I'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way,

Rob

I am very sorry about your diagnosis, it must have been aweful to hear that. You need to talk to the doctor himself and demand an explanation and treatment options.
After that, I would get a second opinion.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Let us know, if you find out anything.

AWWWW, IM SO SORRY! I do know that they say you have to have your eyes checked every 6 months because you can get a detached retina that causes blidness. With lupus EVERYTHING is possible since our bodies are so susceptible TO EVERYTHING. Remember, our bodies are attacking itself even when there is no threat to it, so, it can tear it down in many ways, cancer included. YOU are in my THOUGHTS! PLEASE BE as WELL as possible through it ALL!!!!!

I'm sorry you got such bad news, and especially during the holidays. Hopefully as you get more information from the specialists, things will look brighter.

Hi Theresa,
I'm thinking of you, and hoping that you find the right answers and treatment soon.
Try to find a doc who is experienced with this sort of thing for that second opinion.
Hugs,
Marla

Hello everyone. I'd like to thank Marla, Gizmo, Lucky 7, Debbie-b, Rob, Steve.bryce, Bonus Mom, and Manderson for your thoughts, prayers and comments. This is a very scary time for me but I do have faith in GOD. I have an appointment for January 4, 2012. The doctor will do more exams and explain the surgical procedure. The doctor I saw on 12/8/11 said my right eye is out of alignment due to this mess. I have been experiencing light-headedness and double vision in my right eye. The doctor asked me if I see spots (floaters) and bright flashes of light. I see lots of floaters. Not anything new. Bright flashes of light, not so much.
I am experiencing sensations in my eye that feel like there is something in it (behind the eye). I also experience extreme dryness at night, in the right eye. The eye closes by itself when the extreme dryness comes. No drops help it. These are some things I will discuss with the doctor on my next visit. I don't know. I am overwhelmed but I have faith in GOD that HE will give the doctors the wisdom to handle this situation.
On Thursday, I go for a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. My mom had colon cancer and has breast cancer. My nephew had brain cancer.
I hate that plaquenil but I will start taking it again. It makes me sick, though.
If I didn't have faith in GOD, I would have gone crazy by now. I had a serious breakdown on Friday but I needed it because I was trying to be "brave" and act as if I wasn't scared. I feel better now, but still majorly concerned.
Again, thank you everybody for your good thoughts towards me, your prayers and your suggestions. I will keep you posted. I hope every one of you are doing great!!!
