View Full Version : which specialist to see for constant back of head pain?

Sorry I've been missing so long. Still having trouble with my eyes and the joint at the base of my skull is getting worse. I spend a lot of time resting my head on the heating pad in bed the past few days so looks like I need to see a specialist for that too. Anyone know which one would be best? The pain is at the base of the skull. It's there but not too bad when I wake up in the mornings but as the day wears on, it gets unbearable that I have to rest my head for a while. Then after a few hours it feels better but after I'm up again it starts up again. It's right at the joint and on each side of it. This has been going on since August but getting worse and worse to the point that now I can't stand it. Neurologist maybe? I had something like this a couple of years ago and was told to see a pain management doc but he told me he doesn't do that kind of stuff, he said the pain was too high up. I can't bear this much longer. As long as I rest, it's tolerable or almost completely gone. It gets worse the more I move around. I've been taking it easy for weeks but it doesn't seem to matter. Anyone else have/had this problem?

After a few talks with some gal friends I realize the pain is coming from the glands at the back of the head near that joint and it's probably putting pressure on the nerves. I had a sinus infection for a while and took two rounds of antibiotics for it, so that makes sense. Going to see the GP about it today, hopefully, or Thursday.

Hi Abbasgirl!

I am new here..but I do have alot of experience with head pain.

I have a headache EVERY day! it stinks but I have found a few things that work. I take a decongestant every day because sinus problems can be very painful. I also go to a physical therapist that specializes in cranial-sacral therapy. It helps alot but the cost is high so it is not always a possibility.

I also keep up on my pain meds.

Hope you are feeling better soon!
