Ok, I know they've been around awhile but I've just found the coolest tastiest fruit EVER!! PLUOTS! A wonderful fruit which is a cross of plums and apricots. Amazing!!!! I may try canning some so I can enjoy them all year long. Mmmmm, that sounds good too.

Pluots used to be plentiful here, but in recent years they have become scarce due to the crops being eaten up by a sudden influx of Jackalopes...

Its not such much what they eat-its more what they trample and destroy!

Pluots can be found in the fruit section of most major grocery stores. Rob, I hate to break the news to you but jackalopes atually FEAR pluots and won't go anywhere near them! Do you have many jackalopes in New England? They are quite plentiful here in Montana. People plan their vacations around peak jackalope viewing seasons. Big tourist draw. Jackalopes however are quite elusive and seeing them in person is a rare treat indeed! Thanks for posting the pic of one!

Well, they don't fear people! There have been many run-by nibbling attacks as of late...

On a serious note, Pluots are available in Maine, but not grown here. For whatever reason, up here they are called grenade fruit, or simply grenades. No doubt a reference to the color and sweetness of Grenadine. They taste great, but for me, they are too sweet tasting to eat in any quantity. We have some local folks who use Pluots to make a homemade type of Brandy, which when done right, is really some good stuff.

PS-I've always liked the names of hybrids both real (pluots) and not real (jackalopes). I used to have a neighbor who swore there was such thing as a Cabbit, which is supposed to be a cross between a cat, and a rabbit. I also knew someone who claimed to know of a "crocagator". Haven't seen that one yet either!
