Ok, so after dealing with this pain forever my doctor finally puts me on some medication basically it naproxen 500 mg with nexium twice a day. This is not enough at all and I don't get into the specialist until the end of the month as I previously posted a million times so I called Thursday and asked the girl at the front desk for my doc to call me in something else just to get me through to the specialist well nothing was callled in, so this morning I left a message asking again. I just got of the phone with the pharmacy and he called in Tramadol. Has anyone had this medication and has it helped at all. I am in constant pain and by the time I get home from work I just want to collapse from exhaustion but the pain is so extreme I can't fall asleep without taking sleeping meds which makes me tired in the morning.

Any other home remedies that help anyone else would be great too. Today has been tough because my arms have been cramping and my fingers keep feeling like they are going to fall asleep and being I work for a check cashing company I need my hands and arms.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're in so much pain. If I may, I would like to call the people who aren't giving you what you need royal buttheads.
Ehem.
YOU BUTTHEAD!!!

Thank you- moving on. I really hope that you start to feel better soon and that your Tramadol/new meds do help you. I myself have never been on any of those drugs that you've mentioned, and to be honest, i have no idea what they are.
What sort of pain are you going through, if you don't mind my asking?

I really hope that you feel better soon :( It's so horrible that you're in so much pain.

Mainly joint and muscle pain with extreme headaches. My headaches have gotten worse but I think in the last 20+ years I've had maybe 5 days without a headache but now they are so extreme that nothing helps. The naproxen is an anti inflammatory which when my primary did my sed rate it was normal. I was on steriods because I had a bad sinus infection and while I was on the higher doses it helped some of the pain but now that I am on my last little bit it isn't doing anything and I'm trying to work full time. Ugh. I'm use to pain but it's affecting my movements. I hate doctors!

I took tramadol quite a few years ago and got decent relief with it. I started having some strange side effects, so I stopped taking it - but my brainfog is keeping me from remembering what they were LOL.

Here is a link with basic, but good, info about tramadol: http://arthritis.about.com/od/ultram/a/tramadol.htm

I fell behind on my reading and don't know your story. Headaches are common with lupus, and they can be horribly debilitating (as you know). Hopefully the specialist you are seeing will be knowledgable about that. I would make sure you let him/her know that prednisone gave you some relief.

I've seen quite a few posts on this site from members who suffer with cramping muscles for a huge variety of reasons. My daughter and husband both have problems with that and have found that supplimental magnesium helps. Epsom salts contain magnesium that can be absorbed through the skin so you don't have to worry about stomach upset or getting too much. You can put epsom salts in your tub or even a foot bath and get the benefit (advise given to my daughter by her geneticist). Tonic water contains quinine, which helps with muscle cramps - what you flavor your tonic water with is up to you (wink). If you are taking naproxen, you might just want to stick with adding lemon.

Pain just sucks and doctors are really bad at managing it. I hope are able to find some relief soon. I guess one advantage to being miserable when your appt finally rolls around is that you can describe your pain very accurately. It seems like whenever my appointments come up, I am magically feeling better and can't remember how bad I felt before (damn brainfog!).

I am going to try both things. I need to do something. This flare up is driving me crazy because I have been diagnosed during this flare up and my hubby doesn't do well with medical stuff so he pulled away a little but then came right back, which he goes through cycles of being in his "man cave" and now he's back but I feel like shit and am doing everything to function and not let this flare consume me and I'm not ready to be all reconnected. I just wanna say leave me to ---- alone. I just took the tramadol and though I'm sitting here and my arms and hands are cramping and my head is pounding I'm still sitting here on my computer because it gives me solace even though it increases my pain. I'm exhausted but I'm to frustrated to relax. It's weird, my whole life I've had different symptoms that can all be linked to the lupus but the joint and muscle pain and sudden increase in intensity of headaches has been relatively recent and it's like now that I know the reason why I physically feel worse. Do symptoms just progressively get worse over time or is it in my head?

I have to admit, Elo, your posts are fun to read!

my wife uses tramadol to great effect.
she has knee problems and a bad back.
she has had her first knee replaced, next one in 2 months.
her back is degenerative, and she has steroid injections direct into the problem area.

tramadol work for her. she gets sleepy from it sometimes. no other side effects.

I don't take anything for pain except aleve ( which does nothing really) so I can't help with this. I do hope you find something that gets you where you want to be

I was taking 5 aleve a day which did nothing, my problem is I can't work in so much pain nor can I take care of my 5 year old and since I am not on any particular "lupus" medication I needed something for releaf and tramadol is what my doctor prescribed after waiting 4 days because the front desk never gave him my message. They get annoyed when you call a lot but if you don't then you don't get what you need. Ugh I hate doctors. I am so exhausted right now which I am sure in contributing to my headache which I am sure is also having added pain because I'm cutting back my caffeine and slowly trying to eliminate soda and aspartame. I just need rest and I'm not off until at the earliest next Tuesday.

Do you have a fax machine or can you fax a document on your computer? I almost always fax my requests in, for 3 reasons. One, you have a record of your request and they can't deny they recieved it because you have proof on your machine. Two, the doctor can read EXACTLY what you want him/her to know instead of getting the revised and edited edition from the MA or receptionist. Three, it goes into your chart as a permanent part of your record (so be careful what you say and how you say it ;o)

Gizmo,
Thanks I didn't even think of that. That is a great idea. I think I will do that tomorrow in regards to make sure all of my appropriate test results have gotten faxed to my specialist and I want a copy for my records.

I agree, the aleve does nothing. I simply refuse pain meds due to addiction issues as a teen so I am fighting through it. Not sure how much longer it will last but here is hoping!

I was on a lot of different things for pain, nsaids, lyrica, lodine, Mobil, now I take cymbalta for the muscle pain, and ibuprophin for arthritis on the rough days. That seems to help without all the side effects. My osteoarthritis hurts me more lately than the lupus inflammation. Good luck in your search for relief as pain wears the spirit down

The tramadol seemed to help last night well as much as I could tell. I was so wired from frustration I took my dose of that and one of my klonopin so I could relax and went to sleep although I woke up a few times but the pain wasn't there so that's a good thing. I just need some time pain free to go through the rest of struggles in my life right now.
