I have a rash that started on my neck and chest on my left side and front. It was really thick and swollen and hot. It looked like lizard skin. Then the rash spread to both arms and both legs evenly. As if close the to same location on each side of my body. I had a biopsy on it last thursday and will get results in 10 days. The day before the rash I laid in the sun for 45 minutes and was noticing bad stinging feelings. Like bugs were biting me. The next morning I woke up with rash? Ever since then I have a bad feeling of bugs biting me and sometimes like a bad sting. My wrist is the worst spot for stinging. But it even happens on ears. I am constantly scratching even where there is no rash. It is embarrassing. The rash that I had was really bad on neck and chest and little better on arms and then less on legs. What is weird is there where little bumps from rash that popped up all over body in different areas but in single bumps or a few together. Any ideas?? Has anyone else experienced the biting feeling and the stinging or a rash like this?

Hi Ronnie,

My first thought came when you said "I laid in the sun for 45 min". There is thread after thread, and even 1 sticky, talking about how a majority of Lupus patients are photosensitive. Not only would I have a rash if I had been out for 5 or 10 min it would also through me into a horrible flare. sun does different things to us but few of us can go out in the sun without some kind of reaction. I personally have to wear long pants and a shirt just to go swimming.

If you cut out the sunbathing you will most likely be OK

tgal thanks so much for replying. My rheumi said no more sun but my mind said no way in H E double hockey sticks.:) He then said it doesn't just cause rash but it silently causes damage to organs. I left there and wanted to scream. The sun is what I live for! I love the beach and love feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. This is really going to stink!! I am hoping my skin biopsy shows something different. Thanks again for all you thoughts!

i have the same reaction, including the stiging feeling.

it is worse when i am heated and humid.

it is a type of "heat rash"

yes, for me it is lupus.
it is my body reacting to the heat and humidity.
i cannot shave without having a couple of hours of pain afterwards.
i also used to like the outdoors, now i take it in very small doses,
and only on cooler days.

I can actually get the rash from a hot shower. Yesterday I sat in the sun off and on and had no problem, but other days, my face and ears will get it.

Right now, literally, I am having this happen to me. My hands and forearms are beet red, burning, and it feels like I'm being bit or stung. I get it on my ears too. I soaked my hands in cool water earlier, and it helps a little. This stuff just sucks.

Ronnie,

I know how you feel about having the doc tell you to stay out of the sun. I use to love the beach and laying out on the sand listening to the waves and having the warm feeling on my skin. But, no more. Rash, stinging you name it, the sun is my enemy now. I live in Georgia and it is HOT, and where am I, staying inside. I also have Raynauds so I don't like cold air conditioning, so my thermostat is at 80 degrees. Whats a person to do??? I guess we just hibernate all year.

Ronnie,

If your with a Dermo specialist and it's still driving you crazy see he/she about some steriod based creams to help remove it and if your not with a dermo see what your GP can do to help...as there's nothing worse than a flare driving you soft. xxx

Thanks so much!! I got some steriod cream and boy it did the trick. That stuff is a miracle!! I will let you know what my skin biopsy says this coming Monday.

Hi Ronnie,

I am so pleased the steriod cream as helped because they are excellent but if you ever use them on your face your dermo should tell you, you need at least a 6mths break in between as they're an aging cream. xxx
