View Full Version : My New Cardiologist SUCKS!!!

Ok, tell me this: Why is it when I went to the cardiologist yesterday, he acted as if I was lying to him? He asked me some questions pertaining to my recent heart episode and he also asked about my past (distant past). I told him about the stroke in 1996 and the TIA's. I told him about the aneurysms and the A-Fib. I also, of course, told him about the Lupus and fibromyalgia. He said, "well, all of your test results look great. You say you had all these problems but your tests don't reveal anything. I have to investigate your other medical records before I make a decision".
I wanted to punch him in his face.
Then today, I go to my pcp and she tells me my ana is negative but that my test for inflammation is higher than it should be and that's probably causing the problems with my heart. Oh yeah, my pcp tells me that I am pre-diabetic and my cardiologist SHOULD HAVE ordered me a heart monitor to wear so he can see what I am talking about when I have these heart episodes.

Ok, I have just decided that I AM NOT SICK. I DON'T HAVE LUPUS, FIBROMYALGIA, A-FIB, TIA'S, INFLAMMATION, PRE-DIABETES, OR ANYTHING ELSE. i DIDN'T HAVE A STROKE. I DON'T HAVE ANEURYSMS. I MADE IT ALL UP. IT'S ALL IN MY DARN HEAD AND I JUST WANT THE ATTENTION OF DOCTORS. YES, THAT'S IT. I AM A LIAR AND MY "EPISODES" ARE SOMETHING I AM MAKING UP EVEN THOUGH WHEN I AM HAVING AN EPISODE, THE DOCTORS SEE IT HAPPENING. BUT NO!!! THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH ME. I AM JUST A FAKER. I JUST WANT TO BE SICK!!!
I AM SO DONE RIGHT NOW.
WTHECK IS GOING ON???????????? WHAT IS THE POINT?????? I GIVE UP!!!!!!!!

OK. That felt good to get out, but I'm serious. My cardiologist is a nut job. My heart is hurting right now. He is saying that the inflammation n the heart sack is probably causing the "episodes".

Oh yeah, the entire time I was in the hospital (2 1/2 days), I was wearing a heart monitor and EVERY TIME I GOT UP TO GO TO THE BATHROOM, MY HEART RATE JUMPED FROM THE 80's TO OVER 130. That's just from walking from the bed to the bathroom (the bed was right next to the bathroom). I guess I was making that up, too.

OMG do I understand what you mean! I feel for you because I went through that for so long! My question is this: If they found inflammation in the heart sack then why don't they deal with that? IT seems to me that inflammation around the heart sack is proof of something wrong but what do I know.

Specialist think they know everything and completely ignore you! Be your best advocate and keep standing up for yourself

Hi mrstjscott, I am shaking my head as I read this. Ehen I felt like a 400lb man was sitting on my chest and an icepick was was being blamed into my heart I had various doctors give their opinions over time. Here they are.
"I think it is MENAPAUSE."
"You have DEPRESSION."
"Well there is nothing wrong with your heart"
"Well I can't help you."

There is more humiliating than docs who think you are making thing up. One doctor even commented on my divorced statis. I became so angry that I said, " Did it ever dawn on you that getting the divorce has HELPED ME?" Later that week I received a letter from that doc (not a call) stating that he discovered Hoshimotos thyroiditis and to set up an appointment.

I wanted to scream at each doctor at that center. To this day, if I go to that center am treated CONDESCENDINGLY! I don't go there anymore and I am treated so much better. There are good docs out there they just have to be uncovered(sarcasm here).

Hey that was a really good vent you had there. I feel much better myself (giggle).

Don't you give up fight like crazy!

Tgal, I don't know what the problem is. If I die due to the lack of concern, I already told my husband to change the name of the hospital to MOORE-SCOTT HOSPITAL. They irk me so bad. The cardiologist told me to call him on Tuesday. I will "know" then what he decides. DUH.

LovedbyHim, I did feel so much better after I ranted. I mean, how can doctors be so thoughtless? He, the cardiologist did say that if he couldn't "find" anything after his "research of my other medical records", he may have to do a heart cath. As inept as they are, do you REALLY THINK I WOULD LET THEM DO A HEART CATH? How bout this? TREAT THE INFLAMMATION around my heart. I am self medicating with steroids. My pcp said she doesn't want me to take steroids because of the long-term affects, but they are the only thing that make me feel somewhat better. So, until they find me an answer, I am going to take the steroids. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! LOL.
Oh yeah, the doctor commented on your divorce status?!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Oh, so he's a social worker, too? Condescending? Oh yeah, I know about THAT, TOO. What is wrong with the doctors today? Hippocratic Oath, anyone?

Amazing isn't it? I hope it will all come to good for you. So sorry for your suffering. Please keep me posted on all of this. I'm glad you have a husband to walk beside you, otherwise we would have to blame your symptoms on a divorce (giggling).

Yes, Peridot. After I read it again, I had to laugh myself. I was trippin but I surely felt better after that. I'm still firing my cardiologist. Well, if he acts like he has some sense on Tuesday, he may have a stay of execution. Here's hoping. Glad to make some people laugh today. Sometimes we just need to laugh. Laughing has kept many people from going crazy!!! I hope I can think to laugh when the next doctor implies that I am lying about my symptoms.

Wow, I just get angry at the condescending way some of these docs treat us.
I was advised by my last PCP to write up a list of all my symptoms for my new PCP when I moved. He looked at it and said "Well, we MIGHT be a hypochondriac".
When I'm sitting there with a spasming muscle, and the neuro says "There's nothing wrong with your muscles", I just want to slap him.
Yours is a lot scarier, though. They often don't listen to women about heart problems because we tend to have different symptoms than men. That's how we lost my sister-in-law.
Keep on questioning them until you get some answers.
Take care, and let us know!
Hugs,
Marla

I always think about what I can say to my doctor AFTER my visit, when my head is a bit clearer and less confused. It is hard to think of the right thing to say when you are bombarded with information you were not expecting to hear.

Perhaps when you see your doctor on Tuesday, tell him that you had the impression that he was saying that you were lying about your symptoms, and that you are now really confused about what is wrong with your. Then read out AGAIN the list you mentioned below in your earlier post. That way he will be forced to repeat to you what he thinks is wrong with you. If you are thinking about firing him, it won't hurt to let him know exactly how you feel. It will go one way or another, either he will take you more seriously, or he will dismiss you again.

Ok, now you need to think of a good comeback if you don't get the response you want. I can usually think of some smart alec response for people, but I am a bit dry of humour at the moment. Perhaps someone else can think of something you can use.

They often don't listen to women about heart problems because we tend to have different symptoms than men. That's how we lost my sister-in-law.

Statistics in Australia show that Women die from heart attack more than any other disease. They should take heart problems in women more seriously. The summary was taken form an Australian Government web site titled: The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

Summary

What is the biggest threat to the health of Australian women? The answer: diseases of their heart and blood vessels, also known collectively as cardiovascular disease.

So, when are you going to post a picture of your Academy Award for "Best Performance by a Hypochondriac"?? Lol ok? Seriously, I think the doc needs the award for "best performance- portrayal of a cardiologist", his lousy bedside manner is what ruined it for him. Perhaps he should have gone to acting school and not medical school, then again, maybe he did...

Anyhow, I agree with everyone else that the way many of us is treated is ridiculous! We pay obscene amounts for "decent" care and rarely get what we pay for. We are paying them to be rude? I don't think so. I can piss off my neighbors and get treated harshly for free if I was so inclined to do so. (BTW, I am not so inclined to do so).

Don't be discouraged and do NOT give up. You know yourself better than anyone else and you must be your own advocate.
